It probably did make me a better programmer - if for no other reason that get lots of practice coding because for some reason management tend not to assign me to end user support jobs; well not after the first time anyway :-)

On the other hand a predicament of setting fire on computers in the presence of bugs probably made you a better programmer.. no ? :D
