My Russian Orthodox friend Leah often starts her posts with a picture of a soviet-era poster. Somehow I don't think she'll be using this one any time soon.
This is a genuine Soviet stamping, I think the idea was to show the heroic red army to the peasants (who were most likely illiterate but, given they were familiar with the icons of the church, used to getting stories from pictures. One can't help but speculate if the effect of this was a sudden upsurge in volunteers for the cavalry.
On a side note, I wonder if I could teach my horses to do that?
On second thoughts, having seen what short work they make of carrots, maybe not.
(Hat tip to BoingBoing for that one)

Darling what on earth do I have to do with that stamping? I am an American, my family is of English . Welsh and Scots descent and I happen to be and Orthodox Christian and yet you link me, a fellow horse owner and yes, "lover" with that Tatar pornography? Shame on you, Grumpy, what did I do to you? How on earth do you treat your friends?
Sorry Leah, just mentioned it as you sometimes use soviet era stuff to illustrate your posts (the sausage poster was brilliant!) and this was a bit of soviet era memorabilia - of course this would not be one you would use! No disrespect intended.
Apparently it's supposed to be a horse guarding a fallen bolshevik cavalryman. It just looks like... well... you know...
Yeah, "I know" and its pretty funny. Do you think your horse would guard you? Mine would be off to the nearest green grass, saying "see ya! your own fault you can't ride!"
And unless you call me filthy names I won't get too offended old boy, but those commies, Godless the lot of them if this is what they are on about. LOL!
Whatever happened to good art?
No, I reckon my two would be off to the nearest bit of green eatable stuff as well :-)
And good art? If you can stand to look at it again take a look at the relationship between the horse's eyes and nose... that is either one deformed horse or one very bad artist (Guess all the good artists were fighting for the other side)
